Chapter 3: Terror at the Supermarket

Walmart supermarket.

After Martha learned that Peter was a single dad, she enthusiastically began selecting baby products for him.

Azu was placed in the stroller by Martha, squeezed in next to Clark.

The larger Azu suddenly pushed Clark aside and started hitting him with the Tyrannosaurus toy he was holding.

As Martha was explaining to Peter which infant formula was more suitable for infants under one year old, she didn’t notice that Azu was bullying her son.

“The packaging, taste, nutrition, and cost-effectiveness all need to be considered.”

Martha placed two cans of formula into Peter's shopping cart.

“You can try these two brands; this is what Clark has always used.”

Peter wanted to tell her that he preferred a more relaxed approach to raising Azu and didn’t need to be so particular.

But thinking this might make him seem disdainful, he sensibly remained silent.

Finally, after selecting their items, the two of them queued at the checkout to pay.

Peter held Azu while Martha pushed the stroller and chatted with him, completely unaware that a crisis was already upon them.

Two minutes later, a man walked into the supermarket at the end of the checkout line.

He wore dark Ray-Ban sunglasses and a V-neck T-shirt.

The man in sunglasses surveyed the crowd in the supermarket and pulled a Glock handgun from his clothing.

Then he raised the gun straight into the air and pulled the trigger.

“Bang!”

The gunshot rang out, and everyone in the supermarket fell silent for a second.

As they realized what had happened, the crowd immediately erupted into chaos.

Screams, agitation, and disorder broke out in an instant throughout the supermarket.

The man in sunglasses seemed to relish the atmosphere of terror; he aimed the gun and, with another “bang,” blew the door to pieces.

Peter was startled by the gunfire.

He knew that “zero-dollar shopping” was common in American supermarkets, but he didn’t expect to encounter it so soon.

Before he could react, he was swept away by the panicking crowd.

Holding Azu, Peter wanted to leave the supermarket quickly.

But he didn’t expect that there was more than one armed assailant; another gunman hidden in the crowd immediately opened fire on the people.

This gunman didn’t seem to be aiming for robbery; he began to indiscriminately shoot at the crowd.

On the other side, Martha, holding Clark, ran in terror but almost tripped over a body lying face down.

Seeing the corpse on the ground, a wave of nausea surged in her throat.

Though she quickly covered her mouth, she let out an uncontrollable whimper.

Her cries were not alone; the sound of people crying echoed throughout the supermarket.

Some hid in the aisles, while others rushed for the exit but were instantly shot down.

Then, a gaunt man slowly walked in her direction.

He also wore sunglasses, and his khaki pants were stained with what looked like either food or grease.

He raised his handgun, and with a “bang,” a bullet flew over Martha’s head.

Just as she was about to make a sound, a hand suddenly covered her mouth.

In her terrified gaze, Peter, holding Azu, appeared behind her.

“Shh!”

Peter signaled for her to be quiet.

He held a stainless steel double fork.

Martha recognized it as a barbecue tool.

Peter and Martha hid behind a shelf, and at that moment, Clark and Azu were surprisingly quiet.

Martha was so nervous that she didn’t dare to breathe.

The gunman walked past, and just as Martha was about to breathe a sigh of relief, in the next second, the man suddenly turned around and aimed his gun at her.

Martha froze in shock.

At the moment he pulled the trigger, Peter, who had somehow moved next to the gunman, thrust the double fork violently into the man’s neck.

The gunman, unable to react, turned his head in astonishment toward Peter.

Peter awkwardly spun around to respond to him.

The double fork protruded from one side of the gunman’s neck, appearing like a lever.

Blood gushed from the wound, like a fountain, beginning to soak the gunman’s neck and T-shirt collar.

“Thud!”

The gunman fell heavily to the ground.

After taking down the gunman, Peter's heart raced wildly.

In his past life, he was just a “steel worker” and had only seen killing on television.

Now, in order to save his own life, with adrenaline pumping, he had actually killed the gunman!

Could he have a talent for being a killer?

As he was lost in thought, he didn’t slow his movements and prepared to pick up the gun.

“Bang!”

Another gunman noticed Peter getting ready to pick up the gun and fired, the bullet grazing his body.

Peter couldn’t care less about the gun; he ducked behind the shelf as fast as he could.

On the other side, Martha looked on in shock at Peter taking down the gunman.

She never expected Peter to be so brave!

Her heart racing as well, she saw Azu, whom Peter had placed down, and immediately picked him up.

Another armed assailant angrily raised his gun and repeatedly shot at the shelf where Peter was hiding.

Bullets shattered the items on the shelf into pieces.

“Come out, you bastard!”

Martha, hurt by the shards flying off the shelf, tightly used her body to shield the two babies from harm.

“Patrick!”

Martha shouted to Peter, “If I’m unfortunate enough to die, can you help me take Clark out?”

She had already begun to prepare for the worst.

“Not yet!”

Peter furrowed his brow; he suddenly noticed that Azu, whom Martha was holding, had a faint red glow flickering in his eyes.

He remembered that people from his homeland seemed to have a move called laser eyes.

Thinking of this, he immediately took Azu from Martha’s hands.

“Good job, Azu, think of something angry to awaken your talent; you can do it.”

Peter, disregarding the bullets flying overhead, urged, “Quickly shoot out your laser eyes!”

Azu tilted his head, making “ee ee ah ah” sounds, and even handed him the Tyrannosaurus he was holding.

But there was no sign of the red glow intensifying in his eyes.

Peter's heart sank instantly.

He had clearly awakened his superpower during the day; why wasn’t it working now?

Looking at the Tyrannosaurus in his hands, he hesitated for a moment, then resolutely twisted off its head.

Seeing his beloved Tyrannosaurus being decapitated, Azu immediately pouted.

The red glow in his eyes began to intensify.

The eyes, filled with dangerous energy, seemed ready to unleash powerful laser energy at any moment.

In the shocked and stunned gaze of Martha, Peter dashed out holding Azu.

“Stop, I surrender!”

Hearing Peter’s voice, the gunman halted his shooting.

Seeing Peter emerge with a baby, thinking he had found a human shield, the gunman looked at this “scum” with disdain.

“Scum, are you ready to come out and die?”

“No! I’m here to make you die!”

He pinched Azu's soft little bottom, and with a “wah,” Azu finally cried out.

“Zing!”

A bright red laser shot out instantly from Azu’s eyes.

The powerful laser, as Peter turned Azu's head, moved rapidly alongside him.

“Whoosh!”

The cutting laser instantly bisected the gunman’s body.

With a thud, the upper half of the opponent fell onto a shelf filled with shell decorations and beach snowballs.

As the items fell to the ground, they all shattered into pieces.

Sensing the heavy smell of blood and witnessing the scene before her, Martha wanted to say something but found her mouth completely unresponsive to her brain.
