“A dark force is floating in the air of Smowell!”
“It needs us to take action! Are you ready, Clark?”
The blond boy, holding a toy gun and draped in an ill-fitting flag cape, declared with great conviction.
The boy with black hair, referred to as Clark by him, protested, “That’s not fair, Azu. We agreed that I should be the commander this time, and you should be the soldier.”
Azu, the blond boy, placed his hands on his hips and replied, “The commander should be someone stronger. I’m stronger and smarter, so Clark, you can be the soldier boy.”
Clark immediately countered, “But last time Aunt Neil gave us a test, I scored higher than you.”
“That was because I wasn’t serious, I…”
Azu’s face turned red, and he quickly changed the subject, “Hey! There’s a monster over there, look at my fist!”
Saying this, he pounced into the cornfield.
“John, the flag cape you’re wearing, maybe we should return it!”
Clark shouted to Azu.
The flag from the roof of the farmhouse had been taken by Azu as a cape.
He feared they would be scolded by their guardian when they returned.
But seeing Azu’s carefree demeanor, he had no choice but to follow him into the cornfield.
“Thud!”
As soon as he crawled into the cornfield, Azu tackled him down.
Just as he was about to resist, he heard Azu whisper in his ear, “Don’t move! Listen! They’re coming!”
Azu’s tense words made Clark anxious, and he swallowed hard, tightening the Zorro mask he was wearing.
“Really?”
“Really, listen, those dark overlords are going to attack us; we need to be prepared.”
Clark truly believed that the dark overlords were coming.
He nervously held his breath, straining to catch the sounds around him.
At first, there was the rustling of leaves in the breeze, and Azu’s heavy breathing pressed against him.
Then he heard a cacophony of noises entering his ears.
It was the sound of cars passing on the road and sheep running on the grass.
Following that was an even more chaotic sound.
He also caught whispers from people.
“Buzz!”
A piercing noise rang in his ears, causing a sharp pain.
Covering his ears, he let out a painful groan.
Startled, Azu quickly sat up, looking at him helplessly, “What… what’s wrong? Clark?”
“I… my ear hurts a little.”
Clark’s pain came quickly and faded just as fast; soon he returned to normal.
He covered his ears and fearfully asked Azu, “Am I deaf?”
“No!”
Azu replied impatiently, “If you were deaf, how could you hear me, you idiot!”
He helped Clark up, “We need to go home; otherwise, Dad will be angry.”
Although Azu wanted to continue playing, he had made an agreement with his father to return home before five in the afternoon.
The two chased and played, quickly arriving at the farm.
“Dad! Clark almost went deaf!”
As soon as Azu ran into the farm, he shouted loudly.
But Clark noticed several cars parked at the farm and immediately pulled Azu back.
Azu also realized the situation and stopped his shouting.
The two walked into the living room and saw Peter talking with several men in suits.
“Dad.”
“Guardian.”
The two greeted quietly.
Peter glanced at them and said, “John, Clark, go upstairs.”
“Okay.”
The two quickly went upstairs obediently.
After seeing his two adopted sons head upstairs, Peter turned to face the suited men in front of him.
It had been six years since he found Azu.
Both Azu and Superman had grown into young boys, but time had left no marks on his face.
He still looked exactly the same as six years ago.
In Martha’s words, it was as if God had favored him, granting him the magic of eternal youth.
Of course, God’s favor was nonsense.
The real reason was the watch on his wrist, which not only granted him increasingly strong physical abilities but also significantly slowed his aging process.
His strength, endurance, speed, reflexes, and agility had all greatly improved.
He estimated that his skin could even withstand the impact of small-caliber bullets.
As time passed, the physical enhancements from the watch would only grow stronger.
He figured that if he lived another hundred years, he would surely become Superman.
Does this count as getting stronger while lying down?
Indeed, in any era, lying flat is the most suitable way of life for him!
The only pity was…
He glanced at the watch on his wrist; about one-fifth of the dial remained before it completed a full circle.
He had thought the hand would finish quickly, and the meteor shower would arrive soon.
Unexpectedly, six years had passed, and he still hadn’t seen the meteor shower.
Is this calculated in years?!
If it weren’t for the anti-aging ability he was granted, he feared he wouldn’t even see a few meteor showers before he died of old age.
“Mr. Patrick.”
The man with an eagle nose sitting across from him noticed Peter looking at his watch and thought he was getting impatient.
He smiled and said, “Luther Energy Group is preparing to build a chemical plant in Smowell. After careful site selection, we have determined the area for the plant, and your farm is included in our plans.”
“We hope to acquire your farm, and of course, we will provide adequate compensation.”
As he spoke, he took out a check from his suit and placed it on the table.
Peter looked at him coldly, “What if I say no?”
Although the farm didn’t hold the same significance for him as it did for Jonathan, the arrival of the meteor shower would happen there.
If he sold the farm, how would he find superpowered babies in the future?
Moreover, he wasn’t short on money.
Over the past few years, he had raided quite a bit of dirty money from gangsters in Metropolis.
His Superman-like physical abilities made dealing with those gangsters easy.
Hearing Peter’s stiff refusal, the eagle-nosed man’s smile disappeared, and his tone turned as cold as steel.
“Generally speaking, the Luther Group does not treat collaborators harshly, but for those who don’t cooperate, our methods will not be so gentle.”
Peter squinted his eyes and furrowed his brow as he looked at him, “Are you threatening me?”
“No, how could that be? We are a legitimate company; I’m just referring to normal business competition tactics.”
The eagle-nosed man stood up and extended his hand to Peter.
“I hope you will change your mind, Mr. Patrick.”
Peter did not shake his hand and said flatly, “My answer will never change.”
Meanwhile, at the corner of the stairs on the second floor, Azu finished eavesdropping on his father and the eagle-nosed man’s conversation, clenching his fists.
