Chapter 6: The Brothers' Rift

“Mr. Spike, what should we do next? Report to the board?”

Inside the car speeding down the rugged road outside the farm, a subordinate asked the hawk-nosed man.

With a grim expression, Spike shook his head and replied, “No, that would make the board think we’re incompetent and can’t handle even such a small matter.”

“What should we do then?”

The subordinate said with a worried frown, “Should we continue negotiating with him? Maybe he refuses to sell the farm because he’s not satisfied with our terms.”

“Negotiate? I won’t negotiate with a greedy man.”

Sitting in the back of the car, he coldly remarked while gazing at the fleeting scenery outside the window, “He doesn’t have the right to negotiate terms right now.”

“The old wolf and the sick wolf with the lowest status in the wolf pack have no right to demand more food from the leader of the pack; that’s not how things are done. If I concede to his terms, it will make him lose respect for me.”

His tone carried dissatisfaction, “He’s the kind of guy who will take advantage of any concession I give; if I yield a little, he might just push his luck. I’m not his father.”

Just as he was comparing Peter to the sick wolf in the pack, he suddenly noticed a flash of red light in the distance.

“What is that?”

Startled, Spike immediately turned his head toward the front of the vehicle.

“Red leaves? They are quite beautiful.”

He said to the others, crossing his legs.

But soon, in his astonished gaze, the red light kept growing larger.

“Buzz!”

A red laser suddenly shot toward the moving car.

It seemed to carry a strong, destructive force—a deathly light.

The red laser narrowly brushed past the car, striking a tree on the roadside and instantly piercing through the trunk.

It wasn’t red leaves; it was a deadly ray!

“Shit!”

Realizing he was under attack, a shocked Spike immediately shouted, “Damn it, turn around, turn around!”

The panicked driver immediately slammed on the brakes.

“Screech!”

The car, speeding down the road, emitted a piercing sound.

As a result of the high speed, the car accidentally crashed into a tree stump by the roadside, making a loud “bang.”

The out-of-control car went straight toward a deep ditch by the road.

“Thud! Thud! Thud!”

The car rolled continuously downwards, finally overturning heavily at the bottom of the ditch.

Spike, who had been rolling inside the car, suffered impacts to his head, back, and arms.

The intense pain nearly made him faint.

When the car finally stopped rolling, the surroundings fell into a deathly silence.

Then, groans emerged from inside the car.

He opened his eyes and wiped his sticky forehead.

The pungent smell of blood made him realize it was his own blood.

Enduring the needle-like pain all over his body, he slightly lifted his head to look at the others.

The others in the car were awake and seemed to be okay.

“Cough, cough...”

After coughing a few times, he said to the others with difficulty, “Call... call for help!”

He turned over, gasping for breath, and reached for his clothes placed on the back seat.

There was a phone inside the clothes that could dial for help.

Suddenly!

His gaze caught sight of a child standing on the road.

The figure was a bit blurry in the night,

but a pair of crimson eyes stood out starkly.

He couldn’t help but shiver.

...

Azu's red light in his eyes extinguished as he turned around.

A smile appeared on his lips, one that Peter was very familiar with from his past life.

But the next second, the smile froze.

He was astonished to see Clark standing in front of him.

“John!”

Clark glanced at the car below and then looked at Azu.

“You... did you do this?!”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about; I need to go home.”

Azu pretended to be oblivious and walked straight ahead.

Clark suddenly grabbed his shirt, “I just saw it; your eyes could actually shoot out something like a laser!”

At that moment, he could hardly believe that his good friend could actually be like a superhero.

“No, I didn’t!”

Peter had told him not to reveal his superpowers in front of outsiders.

He respected his father very much; otherwise, he wouldn’t have caused these bad guys to have an accident just to vent for his dad.

“You shouldn’t have done that.”

Although Clark envied Azu’s abilities, he felt it was wrong to act that way.

At this time, Clark’s Kryptonian powers had not awakened; he thought he was just an ordinary person.

“What?”

Azu angrily looked at him, “I’m punishing the Dark Overlord, Clark.”

“He wants to take away my family’s farm and threatened my dad; no one can treat my dad like that!”

Clark’s small face turned red, “But you shouldn’t hurt others; the father said it’s wrong to harm someone’s life.”

“Punishing bad people doesn’t mean hurting others.”

Azu was angry that Clark wasn’t on his side, “They want to hurt my dad; is that also okay?”

“But they haven’t done it yet; that’s very dangerous.”

Clark continued to insist on his viewpoint.

Though he was young, the character of sticking to his principles had already started to show under Jonathan and Martha’s education.

“Because that’s not your dad.”

Azu said angrily, “Because your dad is Jonathan!”

Clark looked at him in shock, “No, the father is also my dad.”

“You’re not, because you don’t love him at all, so you wouldn’t care if someone wanted to hurt him.”

Azu said excitedly, “You eat, sleep, and your dad even draws with you and plays soccer with you at my house!”

The more he spoke, the more wronged he felt, thinking of himself as a child lacking love.

It was as if Clark was his own, and he was the one picked up.

Although Peter would also draw and play soccer with him, he felt that Peter spent more time with Clark.

“I hate you, Clark, because Dad cares more about you; you took him away!”

Azu expressed his true thoughts.

This left Clark, who had never noticed Azu’s sensitive heart, stunned!

“But you’re not on his side and are thinking of helping those who want to hurt him.”

Azu felt betrayed by both his dad and Clark.

As he spoke, he suddenly pushed Clark forward, knocking him to the ground, then turned and walked away without looking back.

After walking for a while, he suddenly felt a bit regretful.

So, he secretly looked back and found Clark still lying on the ground.

He wanted to go back and help him up but couldn’t bring himself to do it.

“It’s his fault anyway; why should I help him?”

Azu kept muttering to himself on the way.

“I’m not wrong; this is Clark’s own mistake.”

Although he said that, he quickly became dejected.
