Chapter 7: The Captain and the Navigator

As the massive warship approached, Lily steered the small boat, swiftly carrying Sag away from the port. Colonel Mouse was here, but the ship was not, seemingly to prevent any unforeseen incidents, as the warship did not dock at the port. Now that this incident had occurred, the warship could instead advance straight in and open fire on this side.

“Hey, this has nothing to do with you, right? What are you doing out at sea?” Sag asked curiously. This princess, after the king's death, was supposed to be the next queen. What was she doing out at sea now?

Lily pursed her lips and replied, “If I killed the Navy colonel, I would also be wanted... Besides, I can’t let you bear this burden alone!” Her tone was exceptionally firm as she faced Sag. “This is my fault, and I can't let you carry the bounty alone. If there’s a warrant out for me, I’m willing to go to sea with you! I know navigation and can read nautical charts; I'm a navigator, so please teach me more in the future!”

Sag was taken aback. “Navigator?”

……

The weather at sea is changeable and unpredictable. If one cannot observe the sky and master the wind direction, it’s easy to capsize in these waters.

Crack!

Under the stormy clouds filled with chaotic thunder, a small boat floated peacefully on the surface of the sea, away from the raging winds and rain. After they escaped the bombardment, they stopped here. Sag smirked, looking at Lily, who seemed curious about the sea, as if she had never been out on the ocean before.

“You really are a navigator...”

A princess who had been raised in the palace and had hardly seen the world could accurately find the wind direction and predict where it would rain based on the clouds, actively avoiding it. She really understood navigation...

Lily raised her head proudly at his words. “I’ve read a lot of books on navigation, and I’ve dreamed of becoming a navigator since I was a child...”

Just as she reached this point, she suddenly paused, her eyes drifting off as an inexplicable image flashed in her mind.

……

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”

The very young Lily sat on a strong arm, and after being asked, she gazed out the window at the azure sea, giggling.

“Going to sea? That’s great... But if you want to go to sea, you need knowledge. Let’s start learning now, and Lily will definitely become an excellent navigator.”

Who was the owner of that arm?

Never mind, she couldn’t remember.

……

Lily shook her head, casting aside the chaotic thoughts, and continued, “In any case, although I haven’t had practical experience, I have a wealth of theoretical knowledge. I can definitely become an excellent navigator and ensure your course. Besides...”

She stood up, causing the small wooden boat to rock violently for a moment, and drew out a beautiful thin sword from her waist. “I’m also a swordswoman, so basic self-defense is not a problem. I won’t drag you down!”

Sag looked at Lily, unable to suppress the smile tugging at his lips. “You seem really excited...”

“I’m, I’m not excited at all.”

Under Sag’s gaze, Lily’s face suddenly flushed, and she straightened her posture, gripping the oar, taking a deep breath to compose herself, putting on a serious expression. “I’m just a bit interested in venturing out to sea,” she said lightly.

Her eyes were practically shining, the girl...

But it’s understandable; a princess raised in a palace, not knowing anyone, would naturally yearn for the outside world.

The citizens of the Kingdom of Oikott could be considered rescued; although the gold in the sky wouldn’t change, at least they had a means to resist, which also eased her heart.

Moreover, this woman, even if we set aside the fact that she killed a colonel, even if she hadn’t, with her unknown identity, even if she forcibly inherited the throne, she would just be a puppet for those nobles, so it’s better to go to sea.

Having learned navigation and swordsmanship since childhood...

If she really wanted to be kept like a canary, where did her swordsmanship come from?

Sag knew that elite naval forces excelled in various disciplines, including body techniques and swordsmanship. This woman’s swordsmanship was probably taught by that Ennio...

Damn that dead father; did he even consider this?!

Sag sat cross-legged on the boat, elbow resting on his knee, palm supporting his chin, and said, “I do need a navigator...”

Anyone with knowledge of navigation is a rare resource at sea. Even a little knowledge will keep someone on board.

Otherwise, relying on himself would leave him lost at sea, and aside from using the sun's position to determine direction, he would be no different from a blind person.

Sag’s words lit up Lily’s eyes.

But before she could speak, Sag waved his hand and said, “However, some things need to be said early. If you disagree, it’s better for us to part ways sooner.”

“First of all, I’m not going on a grand adventure to play house at sea. I’m going to be a pirate. To me, being a pirate is a profession, and I am very professional. I’ll do whatever pirates do. Do you have a problem with that?”

With such a big incident in the Kingdom of Oikott, if he wasn’t being hunted, that would be a problem. Anyway, the bounty hunter’s career plan had failed, so the next profession could only be a pirate.

As for what pirates do...

“I have no problem!” Lily said firmly.

This left Sag a bit stunned. “No, I mean I’ll do everything pirates do—looting, killing, and plundering.”

“Yeah, that’s what being a pirate is!”

Lily stared into Sag’s eyes. “I’m ready!”

Sag asked curiously, “Why?”

“Because you said... you’re not interested in the poor,” Lily said solemnly.

Sag froze, looking at Lily for a moment before breaking into a chuckle. “That’s true...”

He took out the iron flask tied to his belt, took a sip, and then tossed it to the golden-haired, wavy-haired girl in front of him.

“Well then, nice to meet you. Norton Sag, your captain.”

Lily, unceremoniously, caught the flask and took a swig. Even though the spicy taste made her face turn red, she still managed to swallow it down. She wiped her mouth and said earnestly, “Bendetta Lily, your navigator!”

To the right, dark clouds obscured by stormy winds.

To the left, calm seas with no clouds.

On the small boat in the middle, the two exchanged smiles, announcing to the sea that a pirate crew consisting of only two members... was formed!

“Now, let me share my plan!”

Sag said eagerly, “First, we need to recruit a large number of people, accumulate initial capital through robbery, and then find a territory to settle down. Over time, I’ll achieve my great dream of becoming a wealthy landlord. Any problems with that?”

“I do!”

Lily raised her hand. “Before you achieve your ‘great’ dream, don’t we need to find a ship for robbing and sailing?”

A canoe definitely couldn’t be used for robbery; not to mention cannonballs, just one big wave could capsize it.

“Also...”

Gurgle—

Lily’s stomach growled, causing her to lower her head in embarrassment, but she quickly raised it again.

Perhaps it was the boldness of joining a pirate crew for the first time, or the carefree feeling after taking a sip of Sag's drink, Lily at that moment set aside her royal upbringing and etiquette, honestly saying, “I’m hungry.”

Not only could the canoe not be used for robbery or sailing, but it didn’t even have any food...
