Chapter 9: Sanji's Cat Life Gets Hope

In the game, there is indeed a "companion ticket," but that is used for crafting equipment for cats, and as for "follower cat summoning tickets," such a thing, as far as Xie Wen can remember, has never appeared. After all, recruiting cats in the game is done by spending money directly; there’s no need for such flashy items.

"Could it be that...?" Xie Wen stared at the "follower cat summoning ticket fragment" in his hand, and an unpleasant suspicion rose in his heart—could it be that Monster Hunter has released a mobile game? Fragments, card draws, haphazard monster designs, and collaborations with other popular IPs... This mobile game is packed with all the elements, isn’t it?! Especially with the last two points, this is probably one of those exploitative mobile games that rely on IPs to milk money from players.

But wait, I hadn’t heard of MH releasing a mobile version before I crossed over. Moreover, according to the basic rules of crossing over, those who can enter a mobile game or obtain a mobile game system shouldn’t all be seasoned players, heavy spenders, cheaters, or even designers of the game? A decent start would have given a V18 account, a daily salary, and a few hundred diamonds to splurge on.

Why would they choose someone like me, who is completely unfamiliar with it and hasn’t even heard of it before, to cross over with a newbie account?! A newbie account is one thing... But where’s my newbie gift package? Where’s my daily sign-in reward?! Where did they all go?!!

You’d better watch out for not following the basic rules of crossing over, or I’ll send a lawyer’s letter to warn you!

While Xie Wen was having a brainstorming session by himself, Sanji Cat was becoming a bit impatient. “Xie Wen, what’s going on here?!” Sanji Cat tugged at his clothes with his little paw, his big shiny black eyes filled with curiosity.

“Uh...” Xie Wen thought for a moment and really didn’t know how to explain it to Sanji Cat, so he simply told him what he was interested in, “In short, even if there are no other Ailu Cats on this continent, you don’t have to worry about not seeing the big sister Ailu Cat.”

“Meow!” Upon hearing this news, Sanji Cat's eyes lit up. “Quick, tell me more!”

“Ahem, this thing is called a follower cat summoning ticket. As the name suggests, you use it to summon other Ailu Cats,” Xie Wen said as he handed the summoning ticket fragment to Sanji Cat. “But there’s only one-third of it here; we still need to collect the other two fragments before we can summon.”

“Then what are we waiting for?! Let’s go collect them!” Sanji Cat had no interest in the summoning ticket itself; he didn’t even look at the small piece of paper in front of him but urged Xie Wen anxiously, already imagining the scene of meeting the big sister Ailu Cat, his face breaking into a radiant smile.

“The problem is... I don’t know where to collect the next two pieces,” Xie Wen shrugged and explained, “Although this piece appeared after unlocking the large monster encyclopedia, when I unlocked the small monster encyclopedia before, there was nothing like this, and I have no idea how to unlock the remaining pages.”

“Meow!!!” The ups and downs of cat life were simply too stimulating. Just as Sanji Cat had seen a glimmer of hope, he was instantly crushed by reality, and his face switched to a look of despair in an instant.

Seeing the lost look on the cat's face, Xie Wen couldn’t help but laugh and feel a bit sorry, rubbing his head: “Don’t be so down. What I just said was only the worst-case scenario. Maybe the remaining fragments can be obtained just by hunting two more monsters, or perhaps other pages will suddenly unlock at some point.”

“Well, since you can defeat this kind of monster, can’t you go map opening with me, meow?” Sanji Cat, revitalized, and Xie Wen thought the same... even though their intentions were different.

“Of course.” Xie Wen wouldn’t care about that; he smiled and scratched Sanji Cat’s chin, replying, “But before that, shouldn’t you finish processing that meat? Didn’t you say that if left too long, its quality would drop?”

“Meow! My ingredients!” Reminded by him, Sanji Cat hurriedly ran toward the remaining Lin Yang Wang meat.

Meanwhile, Xie Wen sat back on the stone and began to carefully examine the summoning ticket fragment... He hadn’t had the chance to look closely before when Sanji Cat interrupted him.

The summoning ticket was overall a creamy white color, with some light gray monster hunter-style patterns and borders drawn on it, and only two black characters that read “follower.” Like the phrase on the cover page of the hunter’s manual, these two characters were also written in that strange but understandable “monster hunting script.”

And at the edge below the character “从," there was a classic irregular jagged tear pattern. Xie Wen imagined the complete form of the summoning ticket, feeling it resembled a Monster Hunter-themed bookmark.

After putting the summoning ticket fragment into his bag, Xie Wen opened the hunter's manual again, intending to study whether there were any items or functions he hadn’t discovered yet.

However, unfortunately, despite flipping through the manual several times, nothing as special as the follower cat summoning ticket appeared.

On that day, Sanji Cat didn’t use the newly acquired Lin Yang Wang meat to cook; he still used the food he had collected himself. “Such high-grade ingredients should be eaten tomorrow before we go hunt other monsters; that’s the most cost-effective, meow!” Sanji Cat explained confidently.

Well, that makes sense. Xie Wen, who was only responsible for eating, had no objections.

...

The next morning, Xie Wen, still in a dream, was quickly awakened by a rich and appetizing aroma. He hurriedly crawled out of the cave and immediately saw Sanji Cat roasting a whole hind leg of Lin Yang Wang.

He saw Sanji Cat flipping the hind leg, which was several times larger than himself, while sprinkling various spices on it and occasionally scoring it with a chef's knife. The golden oil dripped from the roasted leg, sizzling as it hit the fire below.

“Eating something so greasy this early in the morning... isn’t that too much...?” Xie Wen swallowed, murmuring with mixed feelings.

Knowing that Sanji Cat has a bad temper when cooking, Xie Wen didn’t approach to avoid discomfort but obediently found a stone to sit on, watching the top-notch cat food prepared by the cat and occasionally wiping the “sweat” that dripped from the corner of his mouth...

There was no helping it; Sanji Cat’s bonfire was just too big. Even just standing beside it, Xie Wen felt unbearably “hot.”

Finally, when Sanji Cat took the leg off the fire and placed it on the large leaves prepared as a plate, Xie Wen rushed over immediately.

“Thanks for your hard work,” he verbally thanked Sanji Cat while instinctively reaching for the leg of lamb.

But then, his hand was swatted away by a fluffy little paw.

“Don’t rush! It’s not ready yet, meow!” After saying that, Sanji Cat took out a few dried leaves, crushed them, and sprinkled them over the leg of lamb.

“Now you can eat, meow.” After handing a set of knife and fork to Xie Wen, Sanji Cat proudly put his hands on his hips and said, “The meat of this Lin Yang Wang is so special; its quality ranks at least in the top five of all the meats I’ve seen, meow.”

However, at this moment, Xie Wen had no time to care about the meat quality of monsters. He quickly cut off a piece of lamb and stuffed it into his mouth, yelping as it burned him, yet he couldn’t bear to spit it out. After painfully yet happily chewing for quite a while, he finally swallowed the roasted meat.

And this roasted leg of lamb truly lived up to being made from a large monster; just one bite, and Xie Wen could feel a slight boost in his strength. Most importantly...

This roasted leg of lamb was much more delicious than anything he had eaten before! If only he hadn’t crossed over so late; according to the early rules of crossing over, Sanji Cat’s roasted leg would have attracted at least a holy beast or a dragon.
